30 Days of Thanks #20- New Life
Throughout the month of November I am writing about the first thing for which I am consciously thankful each day. I am doing this simply as a way to be more intentionally grateful. For more on this project, check out the first one or even last year’s 30 Days of Thanks.
When my wife was pregnant with our third child, people were all the time asking “What are you having?” and she would always respond the same way: “a little baby girl.” I asked her one time if the words “little” and “baby” were necessary and proceeded to launch into a light-hearted monologue about the improbability of her giving birth to a 300 pound, 80 year-old girl. I figured those two concepts—little and baby—were given.
I learned two valuable lessons from that experience:
- Sometimes too many words can detract from the meaning of a phrase.
- It’s never a good idea to make fun of anything a pregnant woman says.
I am remembering both lessons right now and will simply say this:
Today, November 20, I am thankful for God’s gift of new life and for the health of Joy and John Colby.
